A cicada clings to a leaf at Hopewell Park. Cicadas appearing in Chillicothe are referred to as Brood XIV. The loud noise they use as their mating call is made by the males, but the females are the ones that can damage trees and shrubs when they cut small slits in tree branches in which to lay their eggs.
